hanging out with Destin Yori Daniel Cretton, director of the wonderful new Marvel series Wonder Man, after Wednesday night's screening at Vidiots. DYDC directed 3 of my fave indie films, Short Term 12, The Glass Castle, & Just Mercy, & is truly an "auteur" now entrusted with making Marvel movies & series, as he said in the Q&A that he's continuing to work with many of the same team with whom he made his debut feature I Am Not A Hipster for just $65k, & that sense of community was reflected in how much Sir Ben Kingsley said he enjoyed making Wonder Man...Just like my debut memoir, Killing Justice, (& upcoming film Orphan Rising), Short Term 12 in particular examines the ripple effects of childhood trauma, the burden of "wounded healers", and the healing power of connection.
