American Doctor is devastating & inspiring!

In my old life as a lawyer I wanted to be ambassador to Israel & help bring about world peace. In my new life as an artist I believe that films like this one can help move us towards that same goal. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this urgent, harrowing, compassionate, and deeply affecting new documentary, as it's a story of courage, compassion & humanity...To see "American Doctor" is to bear witness. To acknowledge that these horrors have happened, are happening. And to collapse the comfortable distance between them and us, Palestine and the U.S....In a landscape where stories from Gaza are often obscured or minimized, 'American Doctor' stands as a powerful reminder that witnessing and not turning away, scrolling or looking away, is a form of resistance and commitment to a better world...American Doctor is desperately important for us to see, and not avert our eyes...The human brain can hear a term like "hospital bombing" and push it aside, but it's very different when you see it happening, when the camera is inside the hospital and you see the results...Whatever political arguments surround American Doctor, Poh Si Teng keeps returning our attention to three simple things: a doctor, a patient, and the obligation to try to save a life...Essential viewing for those on all sides of the conflict...The immediate and stark contrast from the call for journalistic transparency to the harrowing images of dead children is a quick reminder of how the talking points of the criticism of this conflict is misguided at best and manipulatively evil at worst...“American Doctor” unflinchingly takes us into a hospital that should be a safe haven, but in reality is anything but (and that goes for patients, doctors and staff). This is a film that will stay with you after you exit the theater...Urgent, harrowing, compassionate, and deeply affecting, American Doctor is an important documentary that demands to be seen—and, more importantly, remembered...the doctors’ willingness to act in the face of danger exemplifies the importance of confronting morally unacceptable realities, rather than turning away...Poh Si Teng’s bracing, tortured, and utterly vital “American Doctor” is a documentary born from -- and in constant dialogue with -- that gnawing sense of helplessness...In a film dedicated to the healthcare workers and their efforts in the Gaza Strip, director Teng is confident enough in her images to allow them to speak for themselves...It is a potent reminder that children are still being bombed, and a population is being ethnically cleansed, and it’s long past time for the violence to end. And if it won’t end, then at least the bravest of us can go in and try to stop the bleeding...Watching American Doctor is a vertiginous experience, not only for the images of wounded bodies onscreen but for the fractured timeline and the dissonance between the hellscape of Gaza and American complacency...She carves out time to celebrate not only the titular physicians, but also the Palestinian doctors and nurses at Nasser Hospital...A timely, eye-opening and emotionally engrossing documentary...Perhaps a film like this, with its unemphatic, even-handed tone and unforgettable images of demolished landscapes and destroyed bodies, will make a difference. As with the six little victims seen at the beginning of the film, you must not look away...Viewers are confronted with the same chaos the doctors endured—bombs exploding nearby…This will not sit easy, but then again, what’s happening shouldn’t allow any of us to sit easy...This must-watch documentary is a striking reminder of day-to-day atrocities on the Gaza strip...American Doctor is a horrifying film to watch, but that’s the point...It is a compelling, necessary piece of cinema that demands we find our humanity before the hourglass runs out...Teng's feature directorial debut is a required watch, one that puts the deaths of those most innocent in your face and leaves you utterly devastated as a reminder of what has become Palestinians' unnatural new normal...A film that's devastating and inspiring in equal measure, and a call to action against the destruction of Gaza...It is a necessary watch because it dares its audience not to look away, forcing the question not only of whose story is told, but whose deaths matter and make headlines..."American Doctor" is told with the urgency that the humanitarian crisis requires and for all the destruction it depicts, it builds an undeniable portrait of a systematic elimination of an entire culture...What makes American Doctor stand out is how it eschews the bigger picture to focus primarily on the practical, and often hard-to-watch, reality of surgeons trying to save lives in the operating room...American Doctor’ is not easy to watch, and it shouldn’t be. The images are gruesome. The message is clear. The outrage is palpable...It can make one feel crazy to watch American Doctor and be reminded that there are many, many people who could watch this same footage and convince themselves that these deaths are casualties of war...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlQWyvnWwgo
